8 Habits I ChangedAfter Becoming A Mom

Becoming a mom brought along a lot of changes in my life and many of them in the form of small habits from my day-to-day life! I was very comfortable in my skin before having a baby, but realized soon after becoming a mom that stepping out of the comfort zone was the only way out! I changed a few of my habits that I have listed down in this article of mine.

8 Habits I Changed After Becoming A Mom

Sleeping late at night: I remember the days when I used to be awake with my husband until four in the morning, munching popcorn in front of the TV screen watching movies after movies. I changed this habit to sleeping on time at night. Well, I don’t mean that we have totally put a stop to those late night movie sessions at home.We still enjoy those, but the only difference now is that for my son, I have to pretend that I am in deep sleep at 10 pm and as soon as he’s asleep I sneak out of the room to enjoy a movie with the family.

Having Maggi for dinner: No matter how much of a home food lover you are, having Maggi for dinner is one of the real luxuries of life and this luxury is a comfortable habit when it comes to honeymooner phase of life.Having Maggi for dinner at least once in a week was totally acceptable for me as non-mom. But, soon after becoming a mom, I changed this habit of mine and Maggi is no longer an option for dinner now.

Going to the movies every Friday: Being at the movies every Friday for a ‘first day, first show’ experience was a thrilling experience for me – no matter how good or bad the movie was!But now, there’s hardly any possibility of finishing a movie without walking out of the theater in the middle of the movie with your silhouette getting advertised as if it was an in-film ad, getting your coke or popcorn tub flipped by your toddler or shutting up your child’s cries or noisy rumbles to avoid getting thrown out by the security! So I changed, this habit to going to movies once in a while-that too those animated 3D kids’ movies type and enjoying the other ones at home.

Dining at fine dining restaurants: Who doesn’t like to enjoy a delicious meal at a restaurant with a stylishly luxurious ambiance? I used to dine at such restaurants every weekend before I became a mom. But, since things changed, there have been countless such dinners where putting our kid on the high chair was a bigger mess than letting him sit on the chair with us, where all used paper napkins were slammed onto the waiter’s face and where very high decibel sound was produced from the grand cutlery and the glasses – that helped complete the band. This lead me to decide that it’s better to dine at noisy fast food joints, food courts of malls or even at dhabas – but not in any upmarket restaurants until my son grows old enough to sit in one place for dinner!

Using glassware: I had to change my habit of using glassware for all occasions and get back to the old tradition of using steel utensils, not only for daily use but also when guests came home!Buying tastefully  and using beautiful glassware is on a hold for a few years now and with steel comes in the confidence and carefree attitude of my kitchenware not being at danger-even if they are in my son’s hands!

Eating chocolates: I’m a big time chocolate lover and I used to love to eat chocolates-especially at odd times of the day, like in the middle of the night or soon after lunch! All these ‘bad habits’ had to be dropped off since my son started understanding what chocolates are all about. Now, I can’t simply walk up to my refrigerator or the chocolate section at the supermarket and pick a handful of chocolate bars of my choice!I have to do it like a thief who’s shoplifting, keeping in mind where my son is and if he’s able to see me from that point or not. And it doesn’t end there! After buying and bringing those chocolates home, I have to hide them from my son as if they are pieces of platinum and have them only at times when he’s asleep or not around! The wrappers whisper the truth though!

Keeping cupboards locked: Before my son happened, I was a carefree bird and seldom thought about locking up my cupboards to safeguard my belongings, but now I do!I lock up almost every cupboard in the house that’s approachable to my son for I don’t know if I’d ever find notes and coins thrown out of the balcony by those tiny hands!

Growing my nails: I looooove to grow finger nails and shape them, apply nail paints of different colors and keep grooming them every now and then. But right from the time I went into labor until my child grew up a year old, I didn’t grow nails at all owing to the fear of him getting hurt while feeding or massaging him. After that, I had to teach my son the importance of keeping nails cut and clean so I trimmed my nails again. Hopefully, soon I’ll be back to the days when I can say to my child that ‘girls can grow their nails long’ and he will understand without arguing!

Though there have been these and many other smally-polly habits that I had to change after becoming a mom, life hasn’t lost the sweetness that it contained before. In fact, it’s sweeter than ever before and the best part about changing these habits is –

I don’t regret it a bit!
